  1. Day 1

Tokyo to Atami: art and a hot-spring stay

Meet the English-speaking guide in Tokyo and travel by rail to Atami. Visit Kinomiya Shrine and the MOA Museum of Art, with tea if available, before checking in for dinner and a quiet evening.

  2. Day 2

Geigi culture and the coast to Atagawa

Plan the morning around an introduction to Atami’s geigi performing arts, subject to the performance calendar and host arrangements. Continue south by private car, stopping for a local fish lunch around Inatori before an overnight stay in Atagawa.

  3. Day 3

    Shimoda and the southern coast

Explore Shimoda’s opening-port history around Ryosenji and Perry Road, with a harbour cruise if conditions permit. Continue towards Cape Irozaki and Yumigahama when access allows, then return to Shimoda for the night.

  4. Day 4

A last view of the peninsula, then Tokyo

Choose between the Nesugatayama ropeway and a coastal visit around Tsumekizaki, according to weather and season. Leave time for lunch before taking the train from Izukyu-Shimoda back to Tokyo.

Adapting the journey

  • Three days

Visit Atami during the day and keep the overnight stays in Atagawa and Shimoda.

  • More coast

Add a night on Izu’s west coast, with the accommodation and onward route selected for your dates.

  • Continue to Kansai

Return by road to Atami and connect with the Shinkansen rather than going back to Tokyo.

Hotels, room types, spa sessions and dining are proposed and confirmed per request. Age restrictions vary by property.
Roads and weather
Coastal access, road closures, boat operations and busy holiday traffic can change the route. We prepare alternatives with the hosts.
