  1. Day 1

    Arrive on Fukue

Fly from Fukuoka to Goto-Fukue and meet the private car and guide. Begin with Goto udon, Dozaki Church and the landscape around Onidake. After checking in, a stargazing outing can be discussed if the weather and guiding arrangements allow.

  2. Day 2

    Around Fukue’s coast

Explore towards Osezaki Lighthouse and Takahama Beach, with time for lunch around Tamanoura or Arakawa. A camellia-oil workshop or other local visit can be added when a host is confirmed. Return to the accommodation for the evening.

  3. Day 3

    Naru and Hisaka by boat

Subject to sea conditions and a confirmed charter, travel to Naru and Hisaka. Egami Church and the Former Gorin Church are proposed visits, with prior notice arranged through the appropriate visitor system. Return to Fukue.

  4. Day 4

    North to Kamigoto

Continue by chartered boat towards Wakamatsu Seto, then by private car on Kamigoto. Consider Nakanoura, Aosagaura and Kashiragashima churches, with visits arranged around worship and opening conditions. Stay on Kamigoto.

  5. Day 5

    Return to Fukuoka by sea

Transfer to Aokata for the planned sailing towards Hakata, then continue into Fukuoka. The sailing day, vessel, seating and onward connection are confirmed for the travel dates.

Adapting the journey

  • Four days on Fukue

Keep three nights on Fukue and return by air, removing the Kamigoto overnight and the longer sea connection.

  • Local food and craft

Discuss a camellia-oil or udon-making experience, with the host, language and time confirmed in advance.

  • A weather reserve

Add time to absorb a changed sailing, or spend an extra day on Fukue rather than keeping a tight onward connection.

Notes for planners

Church visits
Churches remain places of worship. Prior notice is needed for relevant sites; worship, closing days and local instructions determine access.
Photography
Follow each church’s instructions about photography, clothing and conduct. Interior access and photography are not assumed.
Sea conditions
Charters and scheduled sailings depend on the sea and weather. We discuss an alternative island day and a buffer before onward flights.
Guides and hosts
English-speaking guiding, boat charters and local experiences are confirmed per request; a guide may need to accompany guests from the mainland.
Stays and meals
Accommodation, room types, regional menus and dietary requirements are checked with each host before confirmation.
Rates
Quoted per request once flights, boats, guiding and accommodation have been checked.

A few more starting points, each with its own rhythm.
